...but I think that Autumn is creeping up on us on little cat feet. It was an absolutely stunningly beautiful New Hampshire day here today - the kind that reminds me why I have never had an urge to live anywhere else! Bright blue sky, light breeze, topped out at about 74 degrees. Oh yeah, I'm ready for it! It's down to 54 now at 8pm, and it's going to be a chilly one tonight. Yay! Think I'll bake muffins for breakfast.
We made our first trip to Applecrest this weekend. We picked 25 pounds of apples for pies and apple sauce, and I'm sure we'll be back a couple more times before they close for the season. We took the hayride for the first time (the girls loved the big draft horses pulling the wagon, Red and Bill) and had our favorite apple cider doughnuts that they make fresh by the hundreds every weekend in the fall. LOVE them. I should have thought ahead and brought home a bag full! Next time.
I took off for a little while this morning and went to the big Jo-Ann's Fabrics sale to get the fabric I need for my May Arts project. Can't wait to get started on it when the ribbon arrives! In the meantime, I am working on a sweet little Halloween birdhouse that I found at AC Moore last week. I din't realize that the roof is damaged until I started painting it, though, so I am going to have to "wing it" and change up what I was going to do for the roof.
Haven't done a lot of scrapping in the past week. I'm still trying to get into a groove with being back to work, and helping the kids adjust to new expectations from their new teachers. I see a lot of homework-filled afternoons in our future! So far, they are both enjoying their new teachers and classmates. Aileen's having a bit of "new girl" syndrome - her other classmates were all together last year and looped with the teacher to second grade. Aileen is one of three new children that were added to the mix. She already knew the kids from switcheroo last year, but it isn't the same as being a full part of the class. She's trying to find someone to play with at recess and longing for a "bff" like Brigid has, but hasn't found that special friend yet, and I think she's frustrated by that.
We're having our annual "end of summer" cookout tomorrow for lunch. Lobster is actually cheaper than boneless chicken at this point, so hubby is getting me lobsters and steamers - delicious! We'll do steaks, burgers and hotdogs for the folks who aren't into seafood, and we'll have corn on the cob and fresh veggies too.
